My Picture yourself in Wonderland contest entry. Characters and scene based and inspired by the movie directed by Tim Burton, which in turn is based on the book by Lewis Carroll (Charles Lutwidge Dodgson)
I chose the most popular character, the red queen, in her most well known act, and I've had to work very hard to make sure it would still stand out. The proof is the pudding, so I won't know the answer to that for a while.
I also tried to stay as faithful as I could to Tim Burtons versions, with one notable exception, and put a little twist to my favourite moment in the film

I wanted something impressive and complex. I'm both the red queen and the knave. Stories within stories tend to be a big part of the Alice tale, and the new film is the same way, so I've tried to do the same in a single image. The first story is the frog running away after being accused of eating the tarts, the second is the knaves inherent malice towards his employer (I'm not sure if you can tell be he's/me looking at the queen/me) and the third is the apparent face off of a gryphon and the jabberwocky in the mural. At the same time it reflects my own traits. I'm possessive and with a certain controlling streak, and if you ever eat a treat I've saved for myself I'm sure you'll see the similarity. On the other hand this is not a side I like about myself. So I am both queen and knave. And considering my sweet tooth, I'm probably the frog too.
The last stage of this was entirely fueled by tea and strawberry jam on toast. I've been working nearly nonstop now, save for a couple of naps, for about 39 hours. Or possibly more. And while I don't feel all that mad yet, I am quite definitely a bit twitchy

It's been some time since I last posted a big digital work, and a lot of speedpaints and classical studies have flowed under the bridge since then. Hopefully all that work has paid off in my new "showpiece" There is still room for improvements to this, even more polish to do, but I suspect Earl Grey, my faithful friend, can only bring me so far

And now I'm going to get some sleep while I can, because I have another entry due by the end of the 5th to finish

It's possible it might close while I'm sleeping or working on it, but when you start grinning goofily at your reflection, whistle parade like tunes to accompany the march towards the kitchen, and saying odd words because they sound funny again and again...and again, then it really is time to clock out.
